Ancient Egyptian culture from the 1st Dynasty
Label for gaming pieces. First Dynasty, Abydos, Tomb of Djer, BM (EA35525) Rectangular ebony label, pierced in the top right-hand corner. The front surface is incised with a design showing a tower with a crenellated top, almost certainly a representation of a game-piece, with faint traces of black paint in the outlines and red paint in the carving of the internal details.
